One of the great things with Opulence Hair Extensions is the fact that our hair is thick. Per strand you get a full gram of hair. Lots of times in the past when I would order from other companies I would get tiny thin strands of hair and I would have to end up ordering more hair... in the end it was more money and very frustrating. With Opulence you have hair that not only is quality but you can use less packs of hair to achieve the look you desire.
If the tip of the extension wont fit into a bead there could be a couple of things going on. You could be trying to attach the extension to to much of your clients hair... so you may need to grab less of your clients hair so there is enough room in the bead to put the extension in as well. The other problem could be the tip of the extension is to thick. If this is the case, you can cut the tip shorter and on an angle so it fits or you can heat the tip up again and roll it smaller. These are just some helpful hits that I have learned over the years and it takes no time at all:-)

Tape- In Extensions
I have had a lot of customers talk to me about tape in extensions and ask when we will start to carry them. I am happy to say that we will have a whole new line of tape-in extensions coming next month!!! Tape-in extensions are an awesome new product that we have been looking forward to carrying. The product itself is used for any type of hair... thin or thick it works very well. It looks amazing in thin hair and that is when I find it to be the most helpful for my clients.. I sill do a lot of bead and bond but when the hair is just to thin I turn to tape-in's and my clients have really enjoyed them. We will also have the tape release, this is what you will use to take the tape's out of the hair and we also have the re-tapes, these are what you will apply to the tape extensions in order to re use the hair.
The best part of this is that we have had GREAT feed back on our tape release and our re tapes. We have a lot of customers who have ordered their hair from other companies and cant get the product out of their clients hair... they came to us to see if our tape release would work and IT WORKED LIKE A GEM! So keep a look out for the new products next month!!! -
Shampooing Hair Extensions
A lot of our clients and customers want to know how to care for their extensions... this not only includes washing the hair but how to style and how often to condition and shampoo. I would say that I have been through the gauntlet with my hair because I am a very active person in general and its tough to do somethings with extensions because it requires more work. I work out every day, I play sports, as well as out riding bikes and 4 wheelers.... dust, sweat, wind, wet hair and all of the above you have to deal with:-) So I have a lot of experience when it comes to caring for the hair:-) Your only supposed to wash the hair 2 times a week when you have a full head of extensions. It is a lot of wear and tear on the hair if you are washing daily even when at times you feel like you NEED to. A couple tricks that I have learned is to lean over my sink and just wash the crown of my head so that the top doesn't look greasy and still has that clean fluff to it! This way you can avoid washing all the extensions but still feel good about getting it clean. Second I really like the dry shampoo. It really helps when you are feeling like you need a wash but still not able to wash the whole head. I put a splash on my finger tips and work it through the parts of my hair that I need it worst ... usually it is around the whole perimeter of my head and the crown as well. Extensions take work but they are well worth it!!!

TODAYS TRAINING CLASS....
Today we had a great class. We have a new training facility in SLC and it has been nice to have enough space to teach and have each of you be comfortable instead of feeling crammed. I had to blog today because of a young woman who inspired me in my class. When I first met her she had a beautiful smile and a happy disposition. She was one of those people who you could catch her happy attitude and love of life. I say she was inspiring for the pure fact she LOVES what she does! She is truly passionate about being creative and having that freedom that doing hair brings to us. For those of you who do hair you know that we have the ability to make our own schedules, make people feel good about themselves, charge what we want (with in reason:-) and see a new face every 2 hours, all the while making great money. But she wasn't just in it for the money or flexibility but really because she can use her imagination and do new innovative things. I was motivated to think out side the box for the next client who sits in my chair and says, "I want something new" We all hear that and I want to really do something NEW next time;-) So thank you Tiffany for inspiring me with your talents and passion for what we do!

Using proper products....
Okay, I had a funny phone call today trying to help trouble shoot a client through a bond removal process. She called me freaking out because no matter what she did the bonded hair was not coming out!! I asked if she was applying a good amount to each bond as well as putting it on 5 bonds in a row then going back to the first bond that she applied the dissolvent to and breaking it up with the remover tool after the dissolvent had time to help break down the bond? Was it a new application or did she use a different company's rebonds to tip the hair for a second use? Was she using the clamp tool to crack open the bond? .....She answered "yes, yes, yes" to all my questions and finally I found out she wasn't even using our dissolving solution!!!!! SERIOUSLY.... I had to laugh because it was a 15 minute conversation and then I find out... Oh geez... giggle! Long story short, PLEASE use OUR dissolvent to take out our bond tip hair. It was made specifically for our bond and is not abrasive for your clients natural hair:-) Its a win win for everyone!

Who is a canidate?
With hair extensions in general you have to be careful who you put them in. Some stylists may not care about informing their clients about extensions and the work or care that comes along with them because they cant get past the dollar bill signs. Extensions are wonderful on so many levels and make someone feel like a million dollars but they are A LOT of work, Ill say it again...A LOT of work! If a client has to short of hair, balding, very thin, or transparent hair... they won't be the best client for extensions. In each case the extensions may be more visible especially if you choose to use the bead tip application. If your client is a "shower and run out the door" kind of person, then this probably wont be for them. I know from experience that if you educate your client before doing a full head of extensions they know full well what they are getting into and can never come back to me to point any blame. I would rather the client know the in's and out's then to feel like I took advantage of them. So be careful when choosing to do extensions on a client... make sure they can handle the love and care that goes into long lasting extensions:-)

How to make more $!
Okay stylists you want to know how to make more money or even to charge less and keep cost down for clients? All of our bond tip hair extensions look like an upside down acrylic nail.... forming a U shape. You can cut the tip of the U shape length wise and make two strands out of one! This way you can still charge per strand making more money... your using (charging for) 2 strands but only bought 1 strand. Or if you would like to save money for clients you can do that as well. I love the ability of this option for the pure fact I can use smaller bonds around the face and nape of the head. It looks better and you can't see the bonds at all!

Helpful Hint
Don't leave your hair extensions in longer than 8 to 10 weeks ... It causes more harm than good due to the fact your hair will dread and its a mess to take out!

How to charge and what to charge?
I know that every stylist is different when it comes to price and how to charge. I have 3 different ways I charge and I teach this in every extension class I do. I think it is the most important part of this whole business because stylist don't realize by adding extensions how much more of an income they will have. Everyone is shocked Continue reading

Placement of extensios
When I have stylist call and want to know how to apply the extensions as far as placement, I usually tell them it is a pretty easy deal after you do your first client because all that I am telling them will then make sense. So if you are doing a full head or even a partial head you always work from the bottom to the top, the reason is Continue reading

Can everyone and anyone get extensions?
I think that clients are under the impression that extensions are magical and can change their hair from a pixie cut to this long gorgeous movie star hair...that is not totally true. Sorry to say but there are a lot of variables that can tell you weather or not your client is a candidate for extensions. There are a few that may seem obvious but some people don't know so Ill tell you now, extensions are not for people who are balding. Continue reading

Do it right
I have to tell you that in Opulence's Hair extension classes we go over the application for half of the time. Just talking about how to apply glue in extensions, or cold fusion extensions takes time but it is well worth it. I think most stylists see the dollar bill signs of what they could make doing extensions and forget that it is a tedious job. I know Continue reading

What method is best?
I have people ask all the time what method is best... is fusion hair extensions, i tip extensions, or clip in extensions the best? Each method is different and cater to different users all together. In general the fusion hair extensions, glue in hair extensions and bond tip hair extensions can be used on anyone but is the best when used on clients with really thin hair. You would never use cold fusion hair extensions or I tip hair extensions on someone who has thin, thin hair because there is simply not enough hair to attach it to. So the fusion hair extensions would be the best for that particular client with thinning hair. Continue reading

Where it all began......
When extensions first came about it was years ago. If we think back to where it all began it was in the colonial times when they started to wear wigs. We have always had "fake" hair from days of old till now. The next great step was to braid them in and then to what we will talk about today and that is "gluing" them in or what we know as fusion hair extensions or glue in hair extensions. Obviously this method has been perfected over the years and is now a very common application in extensions. Opulence offers fusion hair extensions and glue in hair extensions. Our bond is made of a keratin/protein base product that is not damaging to the hair. You need to put them in right and take them out right to make sure you don't damage the clients hair. That is a huge portion of the whole process. I hear a ton of horror stories about Continue reading
